  • Hong Kong Animal Health Certificate: the contents of the certificate must cover the requirements in the conditions of the import permit
  • Dog License: If the dog needs to stay in Hong Kong for a long period of time, a dog license is required. (Cats do not need this license)
  • Group I and Group II countries do not need to be isolated, while Group III countries need to be isolated for 120 days, and the application period for isolation from the center is about 12 months
  • The entry of dangerous animals into Hong Kong will be prohibited for the following breeds: Japanese Tosa Inu, American Bulldog, Brazilian Bulldog, Argentinean Dog (and any miscellaneous breeds of these four breeds)
  • Animals must be transported (with tags) in accordance with current IATA live animal regulations

Countries and Groups Permitted to Import Dogs into Hong Kong

If your dog is from a Group 1 country, you can bring your dog back to Hong Kong without quarantine as long as you strictly comply with all the terms and conditions of the Hong Kong Dog Import Permit, have your dog vaccinated and microchipped, and your dog does not need to be quarantined at the point of entry.

Note: Currently, there are only a very limited number of places in Hong Kong that are used for pet isolation and quarantine, and even if you make a reservation in advance, it is expected that you will have to wait up to 12 months before you can get a place in a quarantine center.
