Pet Import to Hong Kong

All animals must be transported by the fastest and most direct route from the exporting country/place to Hong Kong. Animals must be transported to Hong Kong as MANIFESTED CARGO. Transport as excess baggage or hand-carried baggage is not permitted.

– The animal must be transported (with labels) in accordance with the current Live Animal Regulations of IATA (LAR).

– Dogs and cats less than 5 months old or more than 4 weeks pregnant must NOT be imported.

– The animal must be implanted with a microchip that is compliant with the International Standard Organization (ISO) or AVID standards and able to be read by an AVID, or other ISO compatible reader. If the microchip cannot be found or read upon the animal’s arrival in Hong Kong, the permittee or his agent must provide a reader so that the microchip number can be verified otherwise the animal may be RETURNED to the country/place of the origin at the expense.

Note: All dogs in Hong Kong over the age of 5 months must be implanted with a 9-digit AVID microchip. It would be advisable to use a 9-digit AVID microchip to spare your dog the need for two microchips upon importation into Hong Kong.
